I spent a few weeks in search of something elusive and not easily caught.

Now I'm back.

Back to my house, room, dog. 

Back to the TV and the computer. 

Back to my music and my muse.

Back to sunny days in the backyard and warm nights with my nose in a good book.

Not enough! Some tell me.

Not enough!  I need someone there beside me!

But, I have never had someone there beside me.

I didn't miss what I never had, I missed what the world has had and told me, pronounced to me, whispered to me that I needed.

Hell, the world would beat me over the head with it if it could.

Lack!

Lack!

It would say.

So?  I lack what you have?

As if that was anything new!

I've lacked what the world has had for time out of mind.

And for time out of mind the world has been at ease in telling me so.

You know what?

I've stopped listening.
